after serving only 4 and half years
A SICK paedophile who performed perverted sex acts on young girls has been jailed for 10 years.
Martin Casey, 41, befriended 3 Families in Heywood and gained their confidence, then subjected their daughters - one aged just seven - to abuse. He even filmed two of the youngsters as he molested them. A compilation of the footage put together by police was shown to Judge Martin Rudland in private before he passed sentence at Manchester Crown Court.
Casey, who moved to Heywood five years ago, pleaded guilty to six offences - including indecent assault, gross indecency and taking indecent photographs - between July and November 2003.His victims, whom he took on trips to baths and Blackpool unsupervised, were aged seven to 10.
"He gave the mothers no concern about their daughters and they were unaware of his past," said prosecutor Julian Taylor.Casey had previously been convicted of sexually abusing children aged between five and eight and was jailed for 42 months in 1996.
After he was arrested, Casey's home in Duke Street was stoned and his car trashed. A shed in the back yard was also set alight.
"I felt sorry for the guy and he seemed so genuine. How could I have been so gullible?" said the mother of his seven-year-old victim.
"He was like an uncle to the kids and I used to have a drink with him at friends' houses.
"I don't trust anyone any more."
Casey, who lived alone, was convicted of abusing the girl for four months but the family believe it could have been longer. Her mother is happy with the 10-year sentence.
He was arrested after children finally told their parents about the abuse. Police found children's toys, a CD and a number of videos when they searched his home.
Mr Taylor said Casey admitted his guilt when quizzed by detectives but did not show any remorse or regret. The house where Casey lived is still boarded up. Neighbours reacted with relief to the news that he had been jailed.
"I was really shocked when I found out what he had done," said one woman with two young sons.
"He used to give my children ice cream over the back wall but thankfully didn't get close to them.
"He has been in my house because he used to help me out if I needed any jobs doing. I wouldn't even have spoken to him if I had known."
Another said: "He kept himself to himself and seemed a nice bloke. I was surprised when he was arrested."

The murder of Sarah Payne occurred in July 2000. The victim was Sarah Evelyn Isobel Payne (13 October 1991 – 1 July 2000) who was murdered by car mechanic Roy William Whiting.
On 6 February 2001, following a police enquiry, Roy Whiting Age 42 was charged with the murder of Sarah Payne.
Whiting must serve a minimum of 50 years in prison.
First Offence
On 4 March 1995, an eight-year-old girl was abducted and sexually assaulted in Langley Green, Crawley. Whiting was arrested a few weeks later after a man who knew Whiting came forward after hearing that the abductor's car had been a red Ford Sierra, which matched the description of the car that Whiting had just sold.
Three months later, Whiting admitted charges of abduction and indecent assault, and was sentenced to four years in prison. The maximum sentence would have been a life sentence for the crime, however, his sentence was reduced because he had admitted to the crime. A psychiatrist who assessed Whiting after his conviction said that he was likely to re-offend once he was released.
Whiting was released from prison in November 1997, having served 2 years and 5 months of his 4-year sentence, and was one of the first people in Britain to go on the sex offenders' register. He had been forced to serve an extra five months in prison before being released on licence as penalty for refusing to undergo a sex offenders rehabilitation course.
Whiting, knowing that he would not be welcome back in Crawley, moved some 25 miles (40 km) away to Littlehampton on the West Sussex coast, where he rented a flat on St. Augustine's Road. In late 1999, he moved into another flat on the same road, one of six flats in a 19th century seafront building.
